Abstract

Dual-modality wire-mesh sensor is capable of generating images of conductivity and permittivity distributions over a pipe cross section. In order to convert these pair of images into phase fraction distributions, appropriate methods of data fusion must be employed. In this paper, we introduce the use of a model-based method to fuse the data from the dual-modality wire- mesh sensor. Here a parameterized model is fitted to the measured conductivity and permittivity distributions which is then applied to obtain phase fraction from measured data. The method has been applied and tested to acquired data from a mesh sensor in static and dynamic three-phase mixtures of gas, oil and water. Fused images and quantitative values show good agreement with reference values. The new-developed dual-modality wire-mesh sensor has the potential to investigate three- phase flows with good degree of details.
